Chris X Carroll photographed the brightest lights of the late 80s and early 90s.

These are the stories behind and beside the pictures. And what pictures! These treasures have been sitting, unloved, in the artist’s basement for more than thirty years. After commiting some 20k words to text, we struggled to figure out how to showcase these things on Tik Tok or Instagram. Substack will allow us to share longer form, slower media.

The novelist Tom Wolfe is said to have had trouble finishing Bonfire of the Vanities. He committed to publishing weekly in Rolling Stone as a way to force himself to finish the story. We have about fifteen of these ready to go, will try to keep out ahead of it and plan to use the pressure of readership to get back to the writing.

Your subscription will go towards supporting the artist, the fraternity system, indeed, the entire United States. And you do want to support the United States, don’t you? Or are you some sort of Commie? Well then, bless your heart, you come sit by me.
